Franklin D. Roosevelt once said that we cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future. The future for Breathitt County and all Kentucky schools now lies in preparing our students for the challenges they will face when they finish high school. Many of Kentucky's students are not fully prepared for postsecondary studies when they graduate, and students who are lacking academically are far less likely to earn a degree. I'll work hand in hand with our stakeholders to ensure that our K-12 standards, curriculum, and assessment processess are aligned with postsecondary education standards, that effective intervention strategies are given to underprepared students prior to postsecondary admission, and that continual progress is made towards ACT benchmarks. Together we can usher in a future when Breathitt County will set the standard as a college-going and completion culture.
