SMS After School Program: More Than Just Tutoring

The 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) program at Sebastian Middle School is off to a great start this year! Although one of the primary components of the program is tutoring—which is provided each morning from 7:30-8:00am, and from 3:30-5:30pm each evening—there is much more to the program than that!

So far this year, students participating in the program have had the opportunity to create films, learn chess, and join various clubs, like UNITE. This past month, they also participated in the Weigh, Walk, and Go Program sponsored by the Breathitt County Library and UK Extension Office. In addition to that, students also had a visit from the Kentucky Reptile Zoo, and have participated in some classes sponsored and presented by the Breathitt County 4-H.

In the future, other offerings will include robotics, art and history, painting, yearbook, and safety classes. In fact, on November 1st, The Dome Theater is coming to the after school program from 3-7pm! For more information on 21st CCLC and the different programs offered, you can contact Jamie Mullins-Smith at 666-8894.
